How to Configure Your ATT IMAP Email Settings on Various Clients?

This post will help you to understand how to configure ATT IMAP email settings, so you can connect to your email from mobile phones, smart devices, and desktop email clients.

ATT internet service is one of the best providers of email services that can handle up to about 10 email accounts. Aside from being reliable and affordable, ATT enables you to check your email using an email program or app.

If you choose to use the ATT internet service, then you would need to configure your ATT IMAP email settings. In this article, we will guide you on how to configure ATT IMAP email settings to get your email up and running.

ATT IMAP Email Settings

Although ATT offers both IMAP and SMTP settings, this post focuses on the ATT IMAP email settings. When you use ATT internet service for your email, you don’t have to use ATT’s webmail interface. Instead, you can send emails and check your inbox using other email programs, such as Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo, Mailspring, Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.

Using email programs or apps can improve your email workflow. More so, your emails will still be available on your computer when you’re disconnected from the internet.

How to Setup Your ATT Email Program Using IMAP

To access your ATT email account from mobile phones, smart devices, and desktop email clients, you’ll need the following IMAP settings:

  • net (ATT) IMAP Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • IMAP port: 993
  • IMAP security: SSL / TLS
  • IMAP username: Your full email address
  • IMAP password: Your Att.net password

To configure your ATT email settings on Outlook or other similar client and mobile email applications to be able to send and receive emails, you’ll use either POP3 or IMAP. You need to ensure you are using the right server and port settings as shown below:

Go to your chosen email app or client, select File> Add Account (in Outlook) or click on your profile picture and click on “Add another account” (in Gmail).

Look out for and click on “Manual setup” or “Additional server types” (for Gmail, you need to have entered your ATT email address).  You would see POP and IMAP, select IMAP.

For Gmail

For Gmail, enter your password and click on “Next.” Enter your username, password, and incoming server (imap.mail.att.net), and click on “Next.”

Allow Gmail to validate your information, you will be asked to set a few preferences, and your ATT email account will become active on the Gmail app.

For Outlook

Enter your display name and enter your complete ATT email address. Next, you have to complete the server information. For account type, choose IMAP, for Incoming Mail Server, enter imap.mail.att.net, for Outgoing mail server, enter imap.mail.att.net.

The next step involves submitting your login information. Enter your email address as your username and your secure mail key as your password.

Click on “More Settings,” observe the following Outgoing Server Information:

Click the “Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.” Check the “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” box. Provide the following advanced information:

For Incoming Server, enter 993, choose SSL, for Outgoing Server, enter 465, choose SSL, click “OK.” Microsoft Outlook will then verify your account information. Once your given information is confirmed okay, click on “Finish.”

For iPhone

If you’re using an iPhone and would like to set it up for ATT email, navigate to “Settings,” select “Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.”

Click on “Add Account” and select “Other.” Select “Add Mail Account” and enter the following information:

  • Name: Your name
  • Email: your ATT email address
  • Password: your ATT email password
  • Description: enter “ATT”

Under “Incoming Mail Server,” select IMAP and enter the following information:

  • Hostname:mail.att.net
  • Username: your ATT email address
  • Password: your ATT email password

Under “Outgoing Mail Server,” enter the following information:

  • Hostname:mail.att.net
  • Username: your ATT email address
  • Password: your ATT email password

Click on “Save” and choose your given email address. Click on SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server, select mail.att.net under Mail Server and enter the following info on the screen:

  • SSL: SSL
  • Serverport: 465

Back to the previous screen and select the “Advanced” option. Make sure that the following information appears on the screen:

  • SSL: SSL
  • Server port: imap.mail.att.net

  1. I am also at a loss trying to (re)configure my Thunderbird e-mail client. After years of it working just fine (I’m using a PC laptop with Windows 8.1), it stopped working a few days ago. Are there new settings? And if so, what are they? Please, and thank you.
